Welcome to Woodside Art Studio!

Jill Pratt is a well known watercolour artist who lives in St. Catharines, in the shadow of the escarpment. It is here that she finds constant and abundant inspiration. Whether painting the shores of Sauble Beach, the rugged trails in Tobermory or the vineyards of Niagara, she hopes her watercolours reflect the love and respect she holds for the land.

The end of the year newscasts have done alot of "Top Stories of 2011" and the Slave Lake fire was certainly a catastrophic event. I tried to capture some sense of the smoke and devastation that scarred the landscape ...........first in watercolour.

A New Year...a new beginning

Well, all the wonderful Christmas get-togethers are winding down and with New Years Eve only a day away, it's time to get back to what I love. A new year means a clean palette and I am so looking forward to being snowed in. No more shopping, wrapping, eating, drinking, cooking, baking and entertaining. I'm heading into the studio and ignoring the phone.
It's time to paint.

I have been experimenting. Impasto...it's new to me...and I like it. This is my first piece. We took the boat from Tobermory to Flowerpot Island...and I have wonderful sketches and photos of the water over submerged rocks. I think I will work on a few of these.

I like the realism of this piece I painted of the bridge at Ball's Falls in Vineland. In reality the stream is often a mere trickle, but I think this captures the feelings I have of this place.

The Studio Tour

The Studio Tour was amazing! A couple of hundred people attended my studio (cottage!) over the week-end of July 9/10th. The weather co-operated so I could put all my paintings outside.

Watercolours were under the porch roof, just in case!

Many of the watercolour paintings were sold and one of the acrylics made its way to the Jersey shore! Thanks to all who attended . So many lovely compliments left me with a swelled head! The August Art Show and Sale is coming up on the 19th, 20th and 21st at Sauble Beach Community Centre. I'm looking forward to a great show! !

Spring/Summer 2011

What a fabulous season so far....and the weather hasn't hurt!We kicked off the art shows with an opening at The Wildside Gallery in Tara,ON. It was the first time I exhibited a collection of acrylics and the response was terrific! Thanks to those few people who found Tara!
(I know that's a hammer in my hand! I was hanging the pictures, not painting them!)

" The Edge of the World "

This painting is of a spectacular view

from a hiking trail in Northern Alberta.

The locals call it "the edge of the world".

Some wintery scenes that followed our autumn trips.

2011 Paintings

Hi! It's been a long cold winter BUT I have been working hard on a new collection of paintings and will show you a few that I have completed. My son, Sean and I went out several times to scout out new locations for potential paintings. ( Sean is a photographer, I am the painter!)

Rockway is a beautiful area with incredible rock outcroppings, waterfalls and spectacular views from atop the escarpment. These two acrylic paintings are of the area just below the falls.
