Welcome to Woodside Art Studio!

Jill Pratt is a well known watercolour artist who lives in St. Catharines, in the shadow of the escarpment. It is here that she finds constant and abundant inspiration. Whether painting the shores of Sauble Beach, the rugged trails in Tobermory or the vineyards of Niagara, she hopes her watercolours reflect the love and respect she holds for the land.

Loosening up!

This painting of Ryan & Sean is not complete. It needs more contrast and I'm working on it!

A New Approach

I take a lot of photos of cows. While driving to the cottage,
I often have my camera hanging out the window,
snapping cows as they , or I, whiz past!
I like the look of them. And I want to paint them.
But all attempts have ended up looking cartoon-like.
So, I tried to paint them with less detail.
Squinting my eyes I painted around the light areas,
leaving much of their shape the bright white of the bare paper.
This is Keady Cows.

I thought I would try this again,
so I painted some Sandpipers at lawn bowling practice.
I stood on the other side of the fence, unnoticed.
I like the rather unstructured method of painting around the light.
This method suits the subjects.
