Welcome to Woodside Art Studio!

Jill Pratt is a well known watercolour artist who lives in St. Catharines, in the shadow of the escarpment. It is here that she finds constant and abundant inspiration. Whether painting the shores of Sauble Beach, the rugged trails in Tobermory or the vineyards of Niagara, she hopes her watercolours reflect the love and respect she holds for the land.

The Shoreline Artists Studio Tour

On July 8th and 9th, my cottage porch was transformed into a colourful gallery of watercolours and ink paintings. As part of the tour, including 20 artists, each in their own studios, I was so pleased with  this weekend's weather and the number of people who dropped by to see my work. Thank you to all of you who came to buy, or chat or just appreciate some artwork. A number of my favourite pieces are now gone to good homes.

Thank you all for coming!

We have two more shows this season.
August 5th: Art on the Fence in Southampton, Ontario....part of an Art Walk down High Street.
Sept.30th/Oct.1st: our Signature Show at the "Plex" in Port Elgin
Please drop in....it's free and it's so enjoyable!

St.Martin!

Well, we have been in St. Martin for just over a month and life is certainly wonderful here.
I brought my paints and inks , along with all the paraphernalia that artists lug around, but am finding it hard to set aside some 'painting time' each day. That ocean calls!
I have been sketching quite a bit, as it is easy to carry a small sketch book and pencil around.

I went to Marigot, to the art gallery of the island's foremost watercolourist, Antoine Chapon. He paints beautiful scenes of all the beaches and houses on the island. I had the opportunity to view his originals as well as the prints he sells. He is a charming and talented guy!

I am looking forward to getting home to my own art board and turning some of these sketches into paintings.
I have about six weeks until I leave for Europe....a trip to see my favourite Uncle, who is turning 90 this year!  We are also planning to see as many Gaudi buildings in Barcelona and,of course, the city of Paris will no doubt inspire me!
I am optimistic in hoping this trip will also produce one or two paintings.

Then.....home....and a summer of art shows!

A Late Happy New Year!

Every New Year brings fresh beginnings and great intentions!
In Boone , last Fall, I was lucky enough to work with some really talented artists under the direction of Frank Francese. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the watercolour workshop, I had the opportunity to discover alcohol inks. These inks are highly pigmented, fast drying and acid free. When applied to watercolour paper, the results are dull, as the paper absorbs the pigments quickly.
But, on a non -porous surface, they are brilliant!
I am excited to use them next month as we travel to St.Martin.....the inks will certainly be able to capture the vibrancy of the Caribbean!
This picture is called Paris 93...after a visit to see Monet's water lilies with my daughter!
