Welcome to Woodside Art Studio!

Jill Pratt is a well known watercolour artist who lives in St. Catharines, in the shadow of the escarpment. It is here that she finds constant and abundant inspiration. Whether painting the shores of Sauble Beach, the rugged trails in Tobermory or the vineyards of Niagara, she hopes her watercolours reflect the love and respect she holds for the land.

Summer's Over!

Time flies when you're having fun and what a great season it has been!
I will have to backtrack a bit as I have not been very conscientious about keeping this blog updated!
The Shoreline Artists August Show was a great success, not only personally, but for the organization. I am very grateful to those who came to view the art and those who purchased my paintings. I only hope that I can paint a new collection for the Spring that will inspire and please you.I have a few ideas already!
One of the paintings that sold this summer was a thrill for not only me, but my dear Mum. At 88 years young, she loves to go rock hunting, pocketing many to line up on a shelf somewhere. We found a lovely quarry and she was in heaven! So many small rocks to inspect! I painted the spot...her spot... and she called the painting "Leave No Stone Unturned". It sold when I had gone home for a bite.....Hoping whoever bought it will enjoy the story.

A Great Studio Tour

On July 7th and 8th, the Shoreline Artists held their annual Studio Tour. The day began a little cloudy and sure enough, the rain started just as I was putting out the waterclours ! I decided to protect my work so didn't open until the sky cleared around noon. Then everything changed. Meeting new visitors to the cottage ( my summer 'studio') and seeing old friends from previous tours is always a delight. I was very appreciative of all your comments and very pleased that many of you purchased a painting ( or two, Sandra!)
The next show at Sauble is the weekend of August 17th, 18th, and 19th.It is at the Community Centre in Sauble Beach. It's our 25th Anniversary as an art group so we're hoping for a great show!

Upcoming Shows

Summer is here..and while the livivg is easy, it's also really busy! There are three art shows coming up and I think I'm ready...although I always want to paint 'just one more'.
On the 6th and 7th of July the Shoreline Artists will once again hold our Studio Tour which allows the public to roam around Grey Bruce county visiting artists in their studio/homes to view their newest artworks and perhaps purchase a piece. There is no charge and it's a great way to spend a day. Tour maps are available at each studio (or at many local merchants) and there is excellent signage so you won't get lost

May 2012

The Owen Sound Banner committee has chosen from the artwork submitted by area artists and decided on those that will be reproduced on banners to be installed along the harbour walkway .
The unveiling was on the 27th of May. Great art and REALLY great buttertarts!
My entry Rocky River Run was among the chosen images and I thank the committee for their hard work.
I would also like to thank Dr. Steve Briggs for sponsoring my banner!

This painting of Ryan & Sean is not complete. It needs more contrast and I'm working on it!

A New Approach

I take a lot of photos of cows. While driving to the cottage,
I often have my camera hanging out the window,
snapping cows as they , or I, whiz past!
I like the look of them. And I want to paint them.
But all attempts have ended up looking cartoon-like.
So, I tried to paint them with less detail.
Squinting my eyes I painted around the light areas,
leaving much of their shape the bright white of the bare paper.
This is Keady Cows.

I thought I would try this again,
so I painted some Sandpipers at lawn bowling practice.
I stood on the other side of the fence, unnoticed.
I like the rather unstructured method of painting around the light.
This method suits the subjects.
